I got this game in perfect condition with the manuel from gamestop for only 7 bucks.

Presentation got my attention, gameplay didn't retain it. It's quite different, but I feel like sometimes has a lot information to keep track of (dice faces) in a way that isn't particularly well designed. Also, good and fun gameplay is REALLY hard to balance, and I feel this fell a tad short.

Played it by taking advantage of the "Play Free for the weekend" on Steam, as I would not have bought it myself. I played 2 runs, and I already don't really feel like engaging with it any more.. the amount of variables introduced (all companion cards at the same time, demanding CO-OP?), bad companions (la bruja and others), a lackluster final boss with an annoying skill that doesn't let me "play the game" as I have been doing, etc. The visuals and system IS impressively well designed. But there's no more juice in this lemon to squeeze.. Probably the fault of how much you can get / upgrade in a single run.

Impressively, the original Zelda CDI games still have better "cutscene" animations than a recent game.

Great concept, cool music, but the gameplay needed more effort. If they made a good platformer / metroidvania, this would have been a classic, not a niche meme thats forgotten in a week after release. You can just watch all the cutscenes on RUclips and save yourself the time and money. I think game developers should focus more on game design and less on sprinkling in their politics.

honestly this was my favorite game for gameboy just barely above pokemon red and blue. i loved testing decks and the bot opponents were pretty intelligent enoigh to make it fun.

genuinely hope you cover more older one piece games like the Unlimited series on Wii at some point. Your One Piece game reviews are a great middle ground of proper game review but also knowledge/interest in the source material

I stop at 1 hour playtime and thinking if I want to spend tons of hours for this game ... I choose not to. I better replay BG3 or Pathfinder with different class, cause I do feel nothing will I get from this game. If this release in 2005, I will play it big time.

The occasional language slip up makes it obvious that he is a yugioh player turned MTG player. The use of the words ‘creature’ and ‘library’ gave it away.

Jeez, the anime/JRPG storytelling and dialogue hatred is real. Don’t agree with any of it personally. The opening warns you it may be rather lengthy and you can skip it if you want and even if you do, you’ll get the general idea for the plot. I enjoyed the fanservice, the visuals and honestly, had very little trouble with the puzzles. I feel like this review wants to sell people on the game but doesn’t do a great job doing so. Given how many reviews it has on Steam and it’s at 95% overwhelming positive in terms of reviews, I’d say it’s selling just fine. I’m glad you enjoyed it overall but I can’t say this video is going to win many people over to Astlibra when much of the video is just petty complaints and personal issues. That being said, I can feel your passion for the game and I agree that more people need to know about it, just not through this video sadly.

Maybe I was just a simple minded kid, but getting to hang out with Pikachu for an hour or so everyday was so amazing to me. Just hearing him sing along to the commercial jingle again still makes me so happy.

This game reminds me of Budokan on the Amiga back in the days.

Your sole argument relies on locales not adding up... If it's fun, who cares? Not everything has to be like MegaMan or it's influences. I like the mashup and it doesn't reduce the gameplay due to your idea this lacks cohesion to a fault. Couldn't disagree with your anymore. Opinions allowed, but this isn't a story driven experience so I don't see the necessity. Shovel knight drew outside the lines with critical success.

I guess thank you for sharing your honest opinion about the game even if it was largely negative. I am considering buying the game and it's helpful to have a more full picture of what I am getting myself into lol.

might be irrelevant, but playing Europa Universalis 4 has this issue as well, because you need to buy so many DLCs that otherwise the game would just feel too different

My only complain is about the running animation. Turtles seems to be taking long strides, which makes it look like they're running on a treadmill a bit.

It's weird how if they just made an official like Roblox One Piece RP type thing it would've been such a hit, like the series lives off it's world building half the desire of playing any One Piece game is just running around the islands

I'm not sure exactly when multiple deck loadouts started for the World Championship series but it was not 2005. 2004 has that mechanic. You can save up to 3 decks.

I liked the Sacred Cards vs. Reshef game engine comparison. However, to really do it justice, you should have also shown a Reshef clip with a Continuous Effect Monster in play which pauses the game for about 2 seconds on every single one of those cursor checks to force you to read the card text. "Slifer the Sky Dragon powered up 3X for every card in own hand." Other highlights of that game include how bad the deck capacity system is, making the game extremely grindy and how enemies in the final area have 10000+ LP. Despite how tedious Reshef is, I take pride that I beat it multiple times. Because Sacred Cards was too easy and too short, Reshef is a favorite of mine. My dream game would be Sacred Cards with a difficulty increase. But Reshef does feel more RPG-like and less Yu-Gi-Oh like with the lack of healing between duels, and I found having to tutle to protect my LP to stall for a healing card an interesting strategic necessity. Thankfully, the modding community has fixed Reshef to get rid of the cursor checks, but still allow Continuous Effects, enabled starting duels at 8000 LP without needing to go home to heal and made the deck capacity system less grinding. Look up "Reshef is Actually Tolerable Now".

extremely solid review! I kind of regretted buying it a little bit because of the lack of polish, slow metaprogression and imbalanced mystlings. Also the devs do not provide changelogs - which is really importan in an early access game. Additionally my save file broke when they introduced steam cloud saves (again, no changelogs) :/

Pillars was my first as well. Amazing game. 10/10
